The Pavilion Fleuri certainly deserved its pretty name in summer time. Once a very beautiful private villa, built near the edge of the cliffs and a mile or so beyond the town, it had been recently transformed into a restaurant _de luxe_ where, when the weather permitted—which was very often indeed in this southern corner of sunny France—dinner was served outdoors in an immense paved court overlooking the sea.
