There are several translations of Jules Verne’s _L’Île mystérieuse_.
This one was believed to be by H. G. Kingston; but now known to be by
his wife, Agnes Kinloch Kingston.

There are two major sets of illustrations for this book. Jules Férat was
the illustrator of the original in 1874, with engraving by Charles
Barbant. N. C. Wyeth (Newell Convers Wyeth) illustrated a later edition
produced by Charles Scribner’s sons in 1918.

Since both these sets of illustrations are excellent, we have decided to
include both in this ebook. All colour plates, and black-and-white line
drawings found at the end of chapters are by N. C. Wyeth. All other
illustrations, including the French cover, are the originals by Jules
Férat, engraved by Charles Barbant. There is only minor overlap between
the two, where the colour plate is of the same plot as the engraving.
